Zeitung Magazine issue 0.00208DAYS deals with what shapes our everyday lives externally through innovation and technology, and internally within imagination and the theme of a dream.
After being introduced to this issue through our Print in Printed Matter section with insights into “THE EXTREME SELF: AGE OF YOU,“ Zeitung steps into new forms of shoe-making in its first editorial covering On’s innovative LightSprayTM technology. Producing a shoe in three minutes, or 0.00208 days, this new technology changes the high-performance production in the long run, questioning and reinventing strategic thinking and design, as discussed in an in-depth conversation between ALASKA ALASKA and the On team behind LightSpray™.
Technological innovation and design being mentioned, designer ROMI, shot by JULES LÈ VAN NHUONG in Paris, spoke with Zeitung about the usage of tech in craftsmanship in his interdisciplinary practice. Traveling a bit further, photographer JENTE WAERZEGGERS captured the HERBERT FOUNDATION in Ghent – a hidden place with the unique approach of an anti-institution to art, literature, and curation. Looking back at the EXPO02 in Switzerland, MARINA MONTRESOR writes about the works of JEAN NOUVEL, DILLER + SCOFIDIO, and parts of the architectural take on this Swiss national exposition.
The next chapter of this issue covers individual ways of practice as well as personal thoughts and wishes of musicians such as MONEY LANG, FATIMA AL QADIRI, ANGELNUMBER8, AXEL KOLB, MARTINA LUSSI, CAMILLE KELLER, BLESSED AND BLUSHING, and MAGNOLIA PINK. To expand the musical sphere, STEPHAN GILGENREINER’s essay on KRAFTWERK and the band’s visual work breaks down technological influence on and outside narratives within music.
In Sent, a village in the Engadin in Switzerland, ELLENA EHRL and TIBOR BIELICKY had an extensive conversation with artist NOT VITAL on his diverse practices spanning sculpture, painting, drawing, and what he himself calls Scarch – a blend of sculpture and architecture. Speaking of Not Vital, photographer HANNES HEINZER and videographer JON GULER captured On athlete VALENTINA ROSAMILIA on one of Not Vital’s works House to Watch the Sunset.
Shifting between nature and artificial spaces and questioning human touch in the context of innovation and evolution, this issue contains two editorials looking closer at herbs and flowers. BINTA KOPP shot insights into the Swiss vertical farming site of YASAI, whereas NILU SCHAUMBURGER captured EVORAFLOWER STUDIO during her practice of thoughtful Ikebana.
For the Sketch column of this issue, Zeitung asked artists and architects such as DYVIK KAHLEN, GOWOON LEE, KASPER-FLORIO, LOUISA GAGLIARDI, MATILDE SOLBIATI, MOUYAKABI DIOMANDE, SHELLEY UCKOTTER, and SOFIA ALBRIGO for their take on the meaning of dreams, imagination, and technology. Shifting further towards day-to-day life, design studio RETINAA explained their way of practicing Security Design as well as Art and Product Design in order to shape and rethink items like your passport or a banknote.
To take a manual stance on innovation and technology, nine-time world champion in Scale Model Aircraft ANDREAS LÜTHI, shot by LUKAS SAXER, showed his collection of self-made airplanes. This editorial is accompanied by an extensive text on models as model.
The fascination for aviation is shared with artist PRECIOUS OKOYOMON, who not only told Zeitung about the first time flying, but also about their way of creating immersive worlds and collecting memories. With images by DOZIE KANU, these pages invite into a friendsbook-like interview on dreams, favorites, and all things precious.
After an introduction to SITTERWERK and its archival practice written by ENYA BAINS, EHRL BIELICKY ARCHITECTS expand their cultural analysis onto the topic of sampling in architecture. Followed by an architectural essay on La Défense, a photo-story with OTTOLINGER was shot by MISCHA SCHLEGEL and art directed by JULIETTE AUBRY in Paris.
With Zeitung’s new format Visual Ping Pong, photographer ARMIN LINKE and architect MARKUS MIESSEN react to an image sent by Zeitung – an exchange of references and inspirations, without words.
Metalworker and art producer BERND EULER shared project stories, techniques, and his personal approach to art production and his position in the art market. Back on the artist side, ILKKA HALSO spoke to Zeitung in a detailed interview on his relationship with nature and its visual manipulation throughout his works.
To wrap this issue up, SOMETHING FANTASTIC raised questions on what it can mean to share spaces, bend boundaries, and rethink technology as such.
This issue of Zeitung Magazine comes with an A2 poster, Models of Aeroplanes sticker-set designed by SEVERIN WEBER, and a special zine, designed by DATA ORBIT, featuring an editorial on NOAH NOYAN and his photography as well as an interview and photo-story by LARA ESQUEDA with JAMIRA ESTRADA.
